Free one-on-one help, seven days a week — no appointment needed

Learning online means your student works at their own pace — and sometimes that means hitting a wall at 8:00 on a Sunday night, long after the school day is over.

On-Demand Tutoring is there for exactly that moment. Every GRAVA student, kindergarten through grade 12, can reach a live tutor from inside their course at no cost to your family. There is nothing to sign up for and no appointment to schedule. Your student clicks a button, and a real person answers.

How it works

Tutoring lives inside the course itself, so your student never has to leave what they are working on.

1. Find the button. Your student looks for a Chat with a Tutor button. Selecting it opens a chat box.

Where the button sits depends on your student's grade:

  • Grades 6–12 — inside an activity, in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  • Grades K–5 — scroll down the feed page to find it.

The words are the same in every grade, but the icon is different:

2. Start chatting. A tutor answers and helps with the exact activity your student is working on. If it helps to see the problem worked out, the tutor can open a shared whiteboard and work through it together. Audio is available too.

3. Come back to it later. Past chat sessions stay saved. Your student can re-read a session days later to review what they learned.

When tutors are available

Day Hours
Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Sunday 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

These are local times — our hours here in Minnesota, so there is no time-zone math to do. Hours may occasionally vary based on student demand.

French and Spanish tutoring is available Monday through Friday only.

What tutors help with

  • K–5 gets math, ELA, science, social studies; 6–12 gets those four plus French and Spanish (weekdays only)
  • National test preparation courses

Tutors are subject-matter experts. They work through the concept together with your student rather than simply reading off an answer, which is what makes the session stick.

See a session before you need one

Watching a short demonstration first takes the mystery out of it — especially for a student who is nervous about asking for help.

Questions families ask

Does this cost anything? No. GRAVA provides On-Demand Tutoring to every enrolled student at no charge to families.

Does my student need to schedule ahead? No. That is what "on-demand" means — the tutor is there when your student clicks the button, during the hours listed above.

Who are the tutors? Tutors are subject-matter experts provided through Imagine Learning, the company behind your student's online courses. Sessions happen in a secure, monitored platform built for schools.

Will a tutor just give my student the answers? No. Tutors guide students through the thinking, using a shared whiteboard when it helps, so your student can do the next one on their own.

What if my student needs help outside these hours? Message your student's GRAVA teacher through the course message center, or call the GRAVA office at 218-327-5700, option 6.
