Technology & Devices

Families ask us two questions more than any other: does my child need a computer, and what happens when it breaks? Here are both answers.

Does my child need a device?

No. GRAVA provides a district iPad and power cord, at no cost, to any student who needs one, K–12. If your family already has a device that meets the technical requirements, your child is welcome to use it instead. Either way works, and you can switch at any point in the year.

District iPads are issued under the Technology Device and Insurance Agreement, signed before the school year begins. Pickup is coordinated through the GRAVA office; after school starts, devices are available at the District Educational Service Center, or at the Bigfork School office for Bigfork-area families.

What happens when something breaks?

That depends on whose device it is, and we want to be upfront about it before you choose.

On a district iPad, the ISD 318 Technology Department handles everything — setup, updates, repairs, and replacement. You report the problem; we take it from there.

On a device your family owns, we will help where we can, but our support is genuinely more limited. We do not own, manage, or service personal equipment, so hardware faults, operating-system problems, and anything requiring a repair stay with you and your device's manufacturer or your own tech support. We will always troubleshoot access with you and tell you what we are seeing — we just cannot work on the machine itself.

Your child's account and coursework are supported identically either way. Passwords, school email, sign-in problems, courseware issues, grades, and pacing all get the same response no matter what device they are on.

If a personal device becomes a barrier — too slow, will not run the courseware, or simply failed — please contact the GRAVA office. We would far rather issue a district iPad than have a student fall behind over equipment.
